Outstanding freshmen named by NSU First-Year Experience

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Honoring Northeastern State University freshmen who contributed to campus and community life and demonstrated academic achievement, the office of First-Year Experience recently named its Outstanding Freshmen for 2011-12.

Honored freshmen are Mariah Eller of Council Hill, Rebecca Fulps ofBroken Arrow, Chelsea Gordon of Weleetka, Rachael Manning and SadieSpurlock of Inola, Taylor Melone of Tulsa, Matthew Ozturk of ParkHill, Jordan Parker of Miami, Okla., Jake Proctor of Tahlequah and Joey Wells of Muskogee.

From the 10 honorees, Wells was named the Most Outstanding Freshman Male and Gordon the Most Outstanding Freshman Female.

The freshmenwere acknowledged at the Ovation Ceremony on April 21. The annualevent, which also recognizes outstanding seniors and Hall of Fame recipients, was in the University Center Sen. Herb Rozell Ballroom.

Outstanding freshmen exemplify dedication to campus and community lifethrough involvement and leadership in on-campus organizations, activities and community functions.

Recipients must also demonstrate high academic standards by holding aminimum cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.25. Finalists areselected from a larger pool of applicants to receive the Outstanding Freshman Award.
