NSU's Green and White Weekend is April 20-21

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Mark your calendar for April 20-21 as Green and White Weekend returns highlighted by the dedication of the Redmen Heritage Wall.

Recognizing academic excellence, spotlighting athletics, Green and White Weekend is a two-day celebration at Northeastern State University.

While Green and White Weekend has traditionally celebrated the many achievements of NSU students, this year we will add a special event for both alumni and students the dedication of the Redmen Heritage Wall on Saturday afternoon, said Peggy Glenn, director of development and executive director of the NSU Foundation. This event will be followed by the Green and White football game and an alumni soccer game, so we encourage alumni to spend the day here in Tahlequah and check out whats new on campus since their last visit.

The activities open with the 44th annual Honors Assembly on Friday at 7 p.m. in the University Center Sen. Herb Rozell Ballroom. More than 200 NSU students will be awarded certificates to recognize Academic Achievement, Student Activity, Honor Society and Whos Who.

Academic Achievement awards will be presented to the outstanding student in each academic discipline. Student Activity awards will be given to the outstanding student in each campus approved organization or activity. Honor Society awards go to students with high grade point averages and participation in at least two campus organizations or activities, along with Whos Who Awards to students listed in Whos Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.

Saturday begins with the NSU Student Leadership Breakfast at 8:30 a.m., hosted by Dr. Laura Boren, vice president of student affairs. Held in the University Center Redbud Room, the breakfast acknowledges the service contribution of students through recognized student organizations and campus-wide opportunities.

Also at 8:30 a.m. is the Redmen/RiverHawk Golf Tournament and reunion. The fundraiser for the NSU football program is at Cherry Springs Golf Course.

At 10 a.m. in the Rozell Ballroom is the 2012 Ovation Ceremony. Sponsored by First Year Experience, the Alumni Association and the Division of Student Affairs, it recognizes outstanding seniors, freshmen and Hall of Fame recipients.

The dedication of the Redmen Heritage Wall is at 2 p.m. The wall commemorates NSUs Redmen era and the former site of Gable Field. It also honors students who attended as Redmen. The remaining wall of the old Gable Field northeast of the John Vaughan Library is its cornerstone.

The dedication is followed by a reception in the Green and White Room at Doc Wadley Stadium.

Spring football practice culminates with the annual Green-and-White game. The scrimmage is at Doc Wadley Stadium at 3 p.m. It is preceded by the Green and White Tailgate in the north parking lot at 1 p.m.

The NSU Soccer Mens Alumni Game is at 4 p.m. at Dr. Dan F. DeLoache Field.

Other Saturday NSU sporting events include a baseball doubleheader with Henderson State at Rousey Field at 1 p.m. and a softball doubleheader vs. Emporia State at RiverHawks Park at noon.

On Sunday, April 22, NSU will celebrate Earth Day. The event is a university wide program led by the Committee for Sustainability and the Northeastern Student Government Association.

After a morning service project there will be a celebration from 3-6 p.m. at Second Century Square including organization tables, a recycled fashion show and music. An art show and essay contest for local students will also be held in the auditorium lobby of the W. Roger Webb Educational Technology Center.
