TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- To assist people in the access of online sources aiding Native
American health, Northeastern State University is hosting a workshop, "American Indian
Health Information Resources," on Oct. 25 at the John Vaughan Library from 9 a.m.
- Noon.
Instructor is Karen Vargas, consumer health coordinator of the south central region
for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.
"This workshop will familiarize people with the NNLM's American Indian databases,"
said Samantha Clifford, general instructor for NSU libraries. "It will also inform
about Web sites containing health resource information for American Indian populations."
A goal of the workshop is to increase Internet usage by American Indians to find health
information. It will compare strengths and weaknesses of American Indian health sites
and participants will be able to practice skills learned.
"Of course, American Indians will have a special interest in this workshop," Clifford
said. "However, we invite people working for the Cherokee Nation, NSU and elsewhere
in the Tahlequah area to participate."
The workshop will be held in Lab 105 in the Vaughan Library.
Registration is free and open to the public and due by Oct. 9. For more information
or to register contact Clifford at 918-444-3246.
