Muscogee Creek Nations donates $75,000 to OSBDC Network

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Making a valiant stride to increase business potential and inspireyoung entrepreneurs, the Muscogee Creek Nation has established apartnership with the Oklahoma Small Business Development CenterNetwork.

A check in the sum of $75,0000 was presented from the Creek Nation tothe OSBDC Network to assist with providing training and technicalassistance to Muscogee Nation business owners.

There are a lot of people who think about going into business everyday, but put that idea on the back shelf, said Dr. Bill Carter, state director of the OSBDC. Hopefully this will give them the incentive to make their dreams of owning a business a reality in rural Oklahoma.

This partnership, unanimously approved by the Muscogee Creek Indian Council, will provide prospective Creek business owners with business plans and loan packages, assist in location and site selections, and provide small business management systems and tools. The Creek Tribe has also committed to installing an OSBDC Center in Okmulgee to assist in this endeavor.

We collected surveys from the community, and we have found out that people are searching for financial literacy, said Jerry Wilson, executive director of the Creek Nation. This being financial assistance and business assistance, they are greatly interested, they want to be able to go into business and we want to be able provide them this opportunity. Through this partnership we feel that this is going to be a great success.

The program seeks to retain existing successful Muscogee-owned business and expand their capacity; and to develop and provide human resources that will become more involved in Muscogee-owned business contribution to the tribal economic growth.

This program gains support from Northeastern State University and President Steve Turner, as the OSBDC outreach office is located at the Broken Arrow and Muskogee campuses.

Im pleased the Creek Nation has recognized and listened to its people, said Turner. There is great value in having the Creek Nation as part of our network and we are honored to be here today. I look forward to great success stories from this partnership, said Turner.
