Northeastern State University earns awards from OCPRA

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Northeastern State University's Office of Communications and Marketing and the NSU Center for Tribal Studies earned honors during the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association competition on July 10.

Public and private universities and colleges throughout Oklahoma competed for awards in categories encompassing visual, written, oral and web development projects. The 2012 OCPRA conference and competition was held on the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant.

"I am pleased that the OCPRA recognized the hard work of Communication and Marketing," said NSU President Steve Turner. "Although the university community appreciates the ongoing efforts of the CM staff, it is especially impressive and significant when their peers recognize them by awarding two Grand Awards."

NSU earned the Grand Award for Video Spot Broadcast with "This is Where I Gather" by Aaron Anderson, video projects coordinator. Northeastern also won the Grand Award for Special Publication for the "Don Betz Farewell Gift." Acknowledged for the special publication were Tom Smith, director of communications; Jennifer Zehnder, assistant director of communications for media relations and marketing; Joshua Seymour, graphic artist; and Pete Henshaw, university photographer.

"We are also pleased that the Center for Tribal Studies was acknowledged," Turner said. "This recognition emphasizes the significant role that the CTS plays in serving students in northeastern Oklahoma."

Alisa Douglas, administrative assistant for the Center for Tribal Studies at NSU took second place in the campaign category for NSU Powwow and in the general poster design category for Reconsider Columbus Day.

Contest entries were produced during 2011 and submitted to OCPRA judging coordinators. NSU Communications and Marketing staff attending the conference included Zehnder, Seymour, Melissa Cloud, web team coordinator; Chris Greer, assistant director of communications for web strategies; and Amanda Gray, website assistant. Attending from the Center for Tribal Studies were Douglas and Asa Lewis, student programs coordinator.

OCPRA was founded in the late 1960s to promote higher education for the purpose of enhancing Oklahomas economy and quality of life for citizens. NSU has been an active participant for more than 30 years.
