Free parking, shuttle service set for Pitt State game Aug. 30

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- As Northeastern State University hosts its first MIAA game Thursday, there will be free parking and shuttle service available throughout the Tahlequah community.

Shuttle service begins at 3 p.m. and runs continuously until 9:30 p.m. The shuttle lots are as follows:

  • Green House commuter parking lot - located at York Street and Seminary Street
  • Grace Baptist Church - located at North Grand Avenue
  • Tahlequah High School - located at Pendleton Street, off of North Jones Avenue
  • Parking lot - located at Seminary Street and Minor Street

Also, shuttle service will pick up students, faculty and staff from the front of the University Center. This will allow students, faculty and staff to remain parked at regular campus lots and shuttle safely to and from the game.

Paid parking is available as normal at the football stadium. Gates open at 4 p.m.

The RiverHawks are set to host to the defending Division II National Champions and No. 1-ranked Pittsburg State Gorillas in the 2012 season opener at Doc Wadley Stadium Thursday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

Football Tailgate Instructions and Guidelines

  • Entrance will open at 3 p.m. and closed to incoming vehicles at 5 p.m.
  • Use caution when driving through area.
  • Tailgating assignments consist of three parking spots. Each group will get one assigned area.
  • Each assigned tailgate area will be allowed a maximum of one vehicle.
  • Areas will be assigned in sequence based on order of arrival in order to maximize space in an orderly and safe fashion.
  • The tailgate area will close once all the areas have been filled or at 5 p.m.
  • All participants are expected to respect fellow tailgaters.
  • All participants are expected to follow local, state, and federal laws.
  • Currently enrolled students are expected to abide by NSU student rules and regulations.
  • No tent stakes may be used on parking lot asphalt.
