Science & Technology Seminar Series continues

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Visiting to discuss the study of treatment-resistant bacteria, Dr. Helen Zgurskaya will deliver the penultimate lecture of the fall 2012 Science and Technology Seminar Series on Oct. 31 at Northeastern State University.

Zgurskaya, of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma, will speak on the topic "Multiple Antibiotic Resistance in Bacteria: the Problem and Search for Solutions."

In her research, Zgurskaya works to understand the molecular and biochemical mechanisms which result in bacterial resistance to treatment drugs. Greater understanding of the processes bacteria employ to build resistance could result in breakthroughs in the treatment of epidemics in humans, livestock and endangered species and help to prevent recurring outbreaks.

The Science and Technology Seminar Series is arranged by Dr. John de Banzie, professor of biology.
