The Blanks to bring their musical comedy to NSU's Galaxy of Stars

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Offering their lively brand of music and sketch comedy, The Blanks will perform Friday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Northeastern State University Center for the Performing Arts.

The concert concludes the 26th season of NSU's Galaxy of Stars Series, presented by the Sequoyah Institute.

"We've had a great season thus far and I can't imagine a better way to end it than with The Blanks," said Amber Cowan, director of the Galaxy of Stars Series. "They are such a dynamic group and will be very relatable for all audiences."

Based in Los Angeles, The Blanks perform humorous sketches and sing a cappella versions of TV show theme songs. They have also put words to songs without lyrics and their only instruments are a ukulele and talking toy action figures. The show is suitable for all ages and will be followed by a meet and greet with the audience.

The Blanks gained national recognition as "Ted's Band" or "The Worthless Peons" over nine seasons on the TV comedy series "Scrubs." Group member Sam Lloyd played the recurring role of Ted Buckland on the show.

Members of The Blanks are Lloyd, Philip McNiven, George Miserlis and Paul F. Perry.

A native of Weston, Vt., and graduate of Syracuse University, Lloyd has appeared in films such as "Galaxy Quest," "Rising Sun" and "Flubber." He has also appeared in television shows including "Night Court," "Seinfeld," "Spin City," "3rd Rock From the Sun," "The West Wing," "Desperate Housewives," "Numb3rs" and "Medium." He played the hospital's attorney in "Scrubs." His Buckland character also appeared in the 2011 season finale of "Cougar Town."

McNiven, reared in Philadelphia, has guest starred on "CSI," "ER" and "Newsradio." Film credits include "A Dangerous Woman" with Debra Winger and "It's Pat" with Julia Sweeney. He starred in and wrote the songs for the hit musical "Butt Pirates of the Caribbean." He has sung at Carnegie Hall and performed with The Cormen at Lincoln Center.

Born in Lowell, Mass., Miserlis' has appeared onstage in "Evita," "The Odd Couple" with Sandy Dennis and Kaye Ballard and "The Lion in Winter" with James Spader. In June 2008 he sang a seven-minute medley with Jason Alexander at the Hollywood Bowl during Placido Domingo's induction into the Los Angeles Philharmonic Hall of Fame. Film credits include "Sarah Pillsbury's Seeds of Tragedy," "Desi and Lucy: Before the Laughter" and a starring role in "The Incredible Genie."

Perry, from Stoneham, Mass., does all arrangements for The Blanks. He wrote more than half the songs for a musical episode of "Scrubs." One number, Guy Love, received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. He and Lloyd are also members of the Butties, a Beatles cover band they formed at Syracuse. Perrys arrangement of the Butties cover of Joy to the World is included in the soundtrack of the film "Christmas with the Kranks" starring Tim Allen.

The Galaxy of Stars Series hosts a Beyond the Stage "Learning LIVE" matinee performance by The Blanks for area schools. The concert and Q&A is at 1 p.m. in the NSU PAC.

"We're excited to see the interaction between The Blanks and the students in attendance," Cowan said. "They're very high energy and involved with the audience during student performances. This is a very different group than the students have seen this season."
