TAHLEQUAH - The Oklahoma State Regents For Higher Education recently approved Northeastern
State University to offer the Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication with options
in Photography and Multimedia/Web Design.
"The explosion of communication and entertainment outlets, Web sites, cable and network
television, and video grams has increased the demand for creative visual thinkers
to provide new and fresh content for these media," said NSU President Dr. Larry Williams.
"As many institutions across the country are working to create similar programs, NSU
has the needed resources already available."
The Bureau of Labor projects growth in art and design occupations, such as multi-media
artists, animators, graphic designers, and media and communications occupations, such
as photographers. Demand for positions in these areas is expected to increase by 12
to 15 percent by 2014.
"Graduates from this program will have opportunities in advertising, marketing, promotions,
public relations, and sales manager positions," said Williams. "We are confident that
graduates will have no difficulties finding employment."
Four new courses will be added to the curriculum, including Multimedia Design II,
Web Design II, Digital Photography II, and the Visual Communications Capstone Project.
NSU will begin offering the degree program starting with the Spring 2007 semester.
