Five students selected to attend competition in Liechtenstein

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Five NSU students have been chosen to represent Northeastern State University in the Hilti IT Innovation Competition. The team selected to present their idea consists of: Tanya Torrealba, Tulsa, senior; Aaron Brandes, Parsons, Kan. Senior; Robert Rodriquez, Broken Arrow senior; Linnette Gutierrez, Panama City, Panama senior; and Dena Zapata, Wainwright, senior.

All team members are students in Dr. Kenneth Joness Supply Chain/Operations Management class and have been selected to travel to Schaan, Liechtenstein for the Hilti IT Innovation Competition from Jan. 9-11, 2014.

There are two sections of this course, one on the Tahlequah campus and one on the Broken Arrow campus. The students in the classes focused on a logistics theme, which was suggested by both classes. Jones broke his classes into teams; four teams from NSUBA and six from Tahlequah.

The teams used an idea that a think tank in Tulsa, Okla. had been developing a Community Logistics Cooperative, said Jones. Each team came up with some great ideas.

The team chosen to participate in the competition proposed a mobile device/application to communicate transportation logistics needs within the community. The finalist team is from Joness NSUBA class.

While there, the team will attend a final workshop to refine their idea with an expert from the Hilti Global IT teams business unit. They will then present the benefits and how it supports Hilti customers or employees during their daily routines. The winning team will then be selected after all teams have presented their ideas. This competition will provide these students the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with other global participants while also learning about Hiltis products and employees.
