NSU Honors Alumni at Emerald Ball

Published: 2006-11-27

TAHLEQUAH Four Northeastern State University alumni will be honored at Emerald Ball on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. in the University Center Rozell Ballroom.

These outstanding alumni include Drs. Tim (posthumously) and Isabel Baker, Tahlequah, Presidents Award for Community Service; Robert Roady, Distinguished Alumnus, Houston, Texas; and Todd Allen Rolland, Outstanding Young Alumnus, Broken Arrow.

Known for their commitment to education and creating a better community through civic and political service, Drs. Tim and Isabel Baker have proven their dedication to Oklahomans. Through involvement in community, church, civic, political and social organizations created a legacy carried on by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

As educators, the Bakers, both 1950 graduates of Northeastern, shaped the lives of numerous Oklahomans throughout the course of their 40-year careers. Prior to his death in May 2005, Tim had served as teacher, coach, administrator and superintendent of schools. Isabel was named Professor Emeritus of Education in 1994 upon her retirement from NSU, where she taught for over a dozen years.

After attending Northeastern from 1946-48, Robert Roady graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1950 with a bachelor of science in Geological Engineering. Roady retired from the oil industry in 1985, where as a geological-engineer he worked for several oil companies in both Oklahoma and Texas.

Roady served in the U.S. Navy before marrying his wife, Norma, in 1953. Roady has been involved in the Oklahoma City and Houston Geological Societies, as well as Boy Scouts, the Houston Petroleum Club, and the VFW. Roady is a Life Member of the NSU Alumni Association.

A native of Tahlequah, Todd Rolland grew up with Northeastern as his playground. His father, Dr. John Rolland, was an education professor at NSU for a number of years. The president of Summit Financial Group since 2000, Todd started at the company in 1989. A member of the Young Presidents Organization, an international association of youthful leaders, he strives to create a better world through education and idea exchange.

After graduating from Northeastern in 1987, Rolland married his junior high sweetheart, Melinda Ross. The couple has three children, Taylor, Kelsi and Tyler. Rolland is a Life Member of the NSU Alumni Association.

Funds raised from the event go to support NSU scholarships. Ticket prices are $50 if purchased by Tuesday, Nov. 28, and $60 at the door. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the NSU Alumni Association at 918-458-2143.
