Campus is Calling: Get Rowdy in the Jungle on Oct. 4-5

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Homecoming is the perfect time to engage, connect and celebrate
with old friends and rediscover NSU. This years Get Rowdy in the Jungle Homecoming
is Oct. 4-5, culminating with the RiverHawks football game versus Northwest Missouri
State at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Doc Wadley Stadium.
The festivities begin Friday with the Liberty Mutual Green & White Golf Classic presented by Cherokee Nation Businesses at 10 a.m. at the Cherokee Springs Golf Course. Entry fee is $75 per player for Alumni Association members and $90 for non-members. Cost includes green fee, cart rental, lunch, beverages and a gift bag. The event is open to NSU alumni, faculty, staff and the community. Just remember it is all in the hips.
An annual favorite of course is Champagne Bingo which begins at noon at the Cherokee Springs Golf Course. Alumni and friends are invited to an afternoon of dining, toasting and bingo. There will be a shuttle service from the NSU-Tahlequah campus to the event. Tickets are $25 for Alumni Association members and $30 for non-members and those purchasing tickets at the door. Tickets may be purchased online at nsualumni.com or by calling 918-458-2143. This is a fantastic excuse to pull out your favorite hat. This event is presented by the NSU Alumni Association & Foundation.
The evening offers a chance for the entire Tahlequah community to enjoy the artistic side of life at the North End Music Fest in Norris Park at 5 p.m.
And as Friday draws to a close, cheer on the Lady RiverHawks at Dan Deloache Field as the womens soccer team takes on Northwest Missouri State at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
The Homecoming fun continues into the weekend with plenty of events to keep everyone entertained including the Athletic Association Breakfast at the University Center Rozell Ballroom at 8 a.m. on Saturday. This is the perfect opportunity for all former athletes, friends and guests to come together, reminisce, learn about life in the MIAA and see friends and family from your glory days. Stop by RiverHawk Shoppe from 9-11 a.m. for Barnes & Noble discounts and donuts. This is the perfect opportunity to stock up on green and white attire, not just for the days festivities but also for the rest of the year. Who doesn't love huge discounts on apparel? Free coffee and donuts top off this already awesome opportunity. A portion from the days sales will be donated to support the Alumni Association outreach efforts.
President and Mrs. Turner invite Alumni Association life members to their backyard at 9:30 a.m. for the exclusive Alumni Association Life Member & Half Century Club Brunch. This is a casual gathering at the presidents home. Alumni from the Class of 1963 will also be honored. Space is extremely limited, so it is imperative to RSVP early by calling the office of Alumni Services at 918-458-2143.
The Homecoming Parade beings at 11 a.m. from downtown Tahlequah and ends back at Northeastern State University. This Homecoming standard promotes spirit and showcases the creativity of student organizations, alumni and other community groups. Get a curbside view as distinguished alumni honorees and homecoming royalty candidates make appearances. See what everyone has put together to show how they Get Rowdy in the Jungle, and feel free to get a little rowdy as well.
At noon the Reunion Tailgate Party at the Doc Wadley Stadium north parking lot begins. To prepare for kickoff, hang out with old friends and meet some new ones. Bring your favorite gameday supplies and grills. What better way to prepare for a game than to fill up on hot dogs and tailgate fun.
The 2013 Homecoming football game will begin at 2 p.m. at Doc Wadley Stadium. Watch the RiverHawks take on Northwest Missouri State and see which students are crowned Homecoming king and queen. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students ages 4 through high school.
