TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Tis the season for ghouls, goblins and Northeastern State Universitys
Haunted Seminary Hall tour. The annual event is scheduled for Oct. 25-26 and Oct.
31 and will run from 9 p.m. to midnight. Tours will begin in front of Seminary Hall
on the brick memorial bench and last approximately 30 minutes.
The guided expeditions revolve around the historical story of Seminary Hall and note personal supernatural experiences that have occurred in the building. These ghost stories and legends offer a window into the history of NSUs renowned building. Tara Buck, president of the Language and Literature Graduate Student Association explains that many sightings and phenomena are attributed to the spirit of Florence Wilson, principal of the Cherokee National Female Seminary in the 19th Century.
Ghost hunters have allegedly photographed orbs around the structurewhich they deem evidence of spiritual habitation. Odd smells and puzzling sounds have also been noted. There have also been reports of an occasional ghost sighting, usually a woman in a black uniform or a wedding gown, according to Buck.
The tours take place in the oldest haunted liberal arts institute this side of the Mississippi. This event is hosted by the Language and Literature Graduate Student Association. Proceeds from the haunted excursion help fund academic conference costs for the graduate students involved in GSA. General admission is $6. Students, children and senior citizens are $5.
