Jimmy Houston to deliver Battenfield-Carletti lecture on Feb. 13

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Nationally famous angler Jimmy Houston will deliver the Battenfield-Carletti Distinguished Entrepreneur Lecture on Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. in the auditorium of the W. Roger Webb Educational Technology Center at Northeastern State University.

The lecture concludes with a Q&A at approximately noon. The lecture and Q&A are free and open to the public.

Houston, often called "America's Favorite Fisherman," gained national acclaim through his national television show Jimmy Houston Outdoors on NBC Sports Outdoors. However, his hall of fame fishing career began when he was attending Northeastern.

Since winning the Oklahoma State Championship as a Northeasternsenior in 1966, Houston has posted winnings of over $1 million in bass tournaments. He has fished 15 BASSMaster Classics and won the B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year title in 1976 and 1986.Hecurrently fishes the FLW Series.

Houston's TV show Jimmy Houston's Adventures has appeared on several broadcast networks and Jimmy Houston Outdoors was consistently the most viewed outdoors show on ESPN for 20 years. It now appears on NBC Sports Outdoors and other networks.

The legendary angler was inducted in to the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Professional Bass Fishing Hall of Fame in 2002. Houston was inducted into the IGFA Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame in 2008. He was named King of Sports for Fishing in 1989.In June 2004, the Jim Thorpe Association recognizedHouston as the Jim Thorpe Man of the Year.

Houston has written five books including Caught Me a Big'un which was a bestselling fishing book. Hooked for Life and The Reel Line are spiritual and inspirational collections taken from fishing situations. His latest book, Catch of the Day, is a daily devotional built around fishing tips, tales and events.

Established in 2002 through the NSU Foundation by Dr. Harold Battenfield and Dr. John Carletti, the Battenfield-Carletti Distinguished Entrepreneur Lecture Series invites NSU alumni to campus to share their entrepreneurial experiences with students.
