TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State University was selected as one of the grant recipients of the 2014 MLK Day of Service program. This programs focus is on economic opportunity, education, healthy futures, and natural and other disasters preparedness and awareness; areas in which to collectively address specific community identified needs. NSU focuses on partnering with local schools to advance a quality learning environment by assisting teachers with classroom preparation and working with administrators on clean facilities.

The $1,000 grant requires a 70 percent match that can be met through in-kind contributions and donations. The MLK Day of Service movement seeks high-impact proposals from colleges and universities intending to create lasting campus-community partnerships, encourage students and community volunteers to make long-term commitment to service, and to meet specific community needs.

The 2014 MLK Day of Service is Jan. 20, 2014. Feel free to assist or visit some of the work sites on that day.
