Social work department offers free Tourette syndrome seminar

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- Northeastern State University's Department of Social Work is
partnering with the National Tourette Syndrome Association and the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention to present a free seminar about Tourette Syndrome and other
comorbidities.
The seminar is March 8 from 9 a.m. noon in the Administrative Services auditorium
at NSU-Broken Arrow. It is free to social work students and professionals who work
in the human service field.
Dr. Cathy Budman will present the lecture. Budman is the director of the Movement
Disorder Program, an outpatient psychiatry program at North Shore University Hospital
in New York City.
Its up to date information about Tourette syndrome, and disorders connected to it,
that will help professionals in their field, said Carolyn Cox, instructor of social
work.
Cox said the lecture will cover disorders such as ADD, ADHD, OCD, mood disorders and
learning disabilities in addition to Tourette syndrome. Budman will also discuss methods
of diagnosis and treatment.
This is NSU's first seminar to focus on Tourette Syndrome. Cox said the social work
department has hosted successful conferences in the past and expect this seminar to
be productive.
After the lecture resources will be available to attendees which cover all topics
discussed.
