TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Knowledge of current events is the first step toward becoming
a responsible global citizen, which is one of the values Northeastern State University

to deliver this years Larry Adair lectureship on Thursday, April 17 at 2 p.m. at the
Webb Auditorium in Tahlequah, Okla.

He is also the author of Independent Nation: How Centrists Can Change American Politics and Wingnuts: How the Lunatic Fringe is Hijacking America. He is also an editor and has appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Real Time with Bill Maher, PBS and C-Span.
When lecturing, Avlon discusses Americas broken political system and shares with audiences tangible opportunities for constructive change. He is a registered Independent, who believes that hyper-partisanship is hurting our country because it is stopping us from solving serious problems we face.
Avlon is the former chief speechwriter for New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and after the terrorist attacks on 9/11, he and his team were responsible for writing the eulogies for all firefighters and police officers murdered in the destruction of the World Trade Center.
He has spoken at several schools and won the National Society of Newspaper Columnists award for best online column in 2012.
The Larry Adair Lectureship Series was established in 2004 by friends and family of former Oklahoma Speaker of the House, the Honorable Larry Adair, and the NSU Foundation to create an annual forum to engage students in politics, government and public policy.
There will also be a book signing following the lecture in the Webb Auditorium lobby. This event is free and open to the public.
