Community invited to join the Communiversity Band at NSU

Published: 2014-12-01

(Tahlequah, Okla)--Every spring, musicians of all walks of life are invited to join the Communiversity Band at Northeastern State University. The band starts evening practices the second Monday in January and ends with a community concert the last Sunday in April. Selections include the best of the standard band repertoire, and the band provides a great opportunity for anyone who loves to play great music in a fun and diverse environment.

According to Dr. Norman Wika, Director of Bands, The band gives NSU students a place to play their instruments and make music. The band also provides a place for members of the Tahlequah community to get together and play.

Open to NSU students, faculty, staff and members of Tahlequah and surrounding communities who have several years of performing experience, the NSU Communiversity Band kicks off rehearsals on Monday, January 12. Rehearsals take place Monday nights from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building, room 128.

The band is open to anyone who has previous band experience, and no audition is required. Wika adds, We usually have about 50 in the band, and a full compliment of instruments for this ensemble.

We have community members who are physicians, social workers, pastors, retired band directors, etc. This band nicely represents the mutually supportive environment of NSU and Tahlequah.

For more information, or to get involved in the band, contact Dr. Norman Wika at 918-444-2706 or wika@nsuok.edu.
