NSU Fall 2014 Commencement slated for Dec. 13

On Saturday, Dec. 13, more than 600 degree candidates will cross the stage for Northeastern State Universitys Fall 2014 commencement ceremonies. Held in the NSU Event Center in Tahlequah, the event will include both morning and afternoon ceremonies.

Dr. Bill Pierce, a 2014 NSU Distinguished Alumnus, will speak during the 9:30 a.m.ceremony for the College of Business & Technology and College of Liberal Arts. A 1976 NSU graduate, Pierce is the president of Baptist Village Communities (BVC), which is the largest and provider of not-for-profit retirement community services in the state of Oklahoma, operating in eight Oklahoma communities and serving more than 2,000 people. BVC, under Pierces leadership, is in the top 100 of Ziegler Capital Markets list of the Nations largest not-for-profit senior living organizations and the only one in Oklahoma to make the list.

Sarah Vann, a 2014 NSU Outstanding Young Alumna, will speak during the 1:30 p.m.ceremony for the College of Education and College of Science & Health Professions. A 2001 NSU graduate, Vann is an eighth-grade physical science teacher for Owasso Public Schools. She is a National Board Certified teacher and won the Milken Educator Award in 2011, a national program that honors top educators around the United States. Vann has also been recognized as a state finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching three times in the past five years.
