NSU prepares for Family Weekend 2014

NSUs annual Family Weekend will be Sept. 11 13. This event is for all members of the family to spend time with their NSU student in Tahlequah, Okla.
Thursday, Sept. 11 the NSU Womens Soccer team is playing against Quachita Baptist University.
Friday, Sept. 12 is full of options as well. Families can visit the Cherokee Heritage Center. Adult admission tickets are good for the Cherokee Heritage Center Museum, Outdoor Village or Grounds and the Diligwa.
They can shop for RiverHawks gear at the NSU RiverHawk Shoppe on the first floor of the University Center or in the downtown area.Merchants at downtown shops will have promotional sales and incentives for those visiting their stores.
The NSU Parent Association has partnered with the downtown Tahlequah merchants for a scholarship drawing. After exploring each store, register at each location. During halftime of the football game onSaturday, Sept. 13 the winner will be announced and receive a cash scholarship sponsored by the NSU Parent Association. The more shops one visits the more chances they have to win.
The evening will end with NSU Mens Soccer team will play against Colorado School of Mines.
Saturday, Sept. 13 is Sibling Day at NSU-Tahlequah. All day and night current NSU students can have their younger siblings (of the same gender) stay overnight with them on campus.
Families will have the option to participate in some of the events they may have missed out on the day before. The Cherokee Heritage Center, Shop Downtown Tahlequah and the Shop for RiverHawks Gear at the NSU RiverHawk Shoppe.
The 18-Hole Golf Tournament will be hosted by the NSU Interfraternity Council. Pre-registration is required and all proceeds will benefit the NSU IFC.
Brunch and Brushes is a new event hosted by the NSU Panhellenic Council. This is an art experience for those interested in creating an art canvas suitable for framing. Cost includes a commemorative champagne flute, supplies and an assortment of breakfast treats. Pre-registration is required.
Football tailgate at Doc Wadley Stadium will begin at noon and kick off of the NSU RiverHawks Football game against Fort Hays State University at Gable Field will begin at2 p.m.
Halftime of the football game will be full of surprises, too. Not only will the scholarship winner be announced, but the NSU Family of the Year will also be presented. NSU students will nominate their family for this honor by submitting an essay and the winner is selected through a committee evaluation process.
As a member of the NSU Parent Association, there are discounts offered on several of the weekends events, including hotel stays as well. When booking reservations, be sure to mention membership and present the Parent Association ID card at check in. Hotels participating in this are the Best Western, Comfort Inn & Suites, Days Inn and Blue Fern Bed and Breakfast.
