New student housing project underway at NSU

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State University broke ground on the new student housing project on Friday, May 2.

Located at 710 N. Lewis Ave, just east of Wyly Hall on the NSU-Tahlequah campus, the residence hall will be a four story building with 92 student suites and 344 beds.

The new residence hall will be an 80,908-square-foot building with semi-suite configuration and an exterior architecture constructed to emulate that of Wilson and Haskell Halls current design features. This will be done to ensure that the look, feel and character of Northeasterns campus are maintained. The interior will be more modern than that of the older housing halls on campus.

I will be most excited about surprising students, Todd Enlow, director of Auxiliary Services said. It is my goal to find unique ways to exceed students expectations and surprise them. They are expecting new housing, but we want to provide new housing that feels like home and will be easy to maintain for years to come; because we will be offering our best every year, not just the first year. It will be a treat to see the expression of the students on the first day of move-in.

This building will also include energy efficient HVAC and tankless hot water systems.

On April 11, the Regional University System of Oklahoma Board approved this project and $15,000,000 in funding through the Oklahoma State Regents of Higher Educations Real Property Master Lease Program. The money will be used to design the new residence hall that will be located on the northeast corner of Lewis and Garrison.

This is a huge step forward for us, NSU president Steve Turner said. Our students have been asking for this type of housing experience that we will soon be able to deliver. I am so excited about the upgrades we will be able to provide on existing housing.

The approved funding includes renovations to Wyly and Leoser Halls that will include upgrades to the restrooms and HVAC systems.

The estimated completion date for this project is the fall of 2015.
