OSRHE Chancellor to visit Jan. 31

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Chancellor of the Oklahoma System of Higher Education, Glen Johnson will visit Northeastern State University on Friday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. Johnson will discuss the Oklahoma State Regents of Higher Educations Performance-Based Budget request for FY15, as well as make a presentation on the state of higher education in Oklahoma in the Webb Tower Auditorium.

As Chancellor, Johnson leads a state system comprised of 25 public colleges and universities and reports to a constitutional board whose nine members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate. He directs 20 statewide scholarship programs as well as other programs, including the State Regents Summer Academies, Math and Science program and the statewide Gear Up efforts.

Johnson provides leadership on matters relating to standards for Oklahoma higher education, courses and programs of study, budget allocations for institutions, fees and tuition, and strategic planning. He is responsible for an annual higher education budget, the state endowment fund, OneNet, which is Oklahomas most advanced technology network designed to provide the infrastructure to support high-speed broadband services, and the Oklahoma College Assistance Program.

Johnson became the eighth chancellor of the Oklahoma State System in Jan. 2007. Prior to the role of chancellor, he served as the 16th president of Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla. for 10 years. He served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1982-1996 and was speaker of the House from 1990-1996. At the time of his election as speaker, he was the youngest-sitting speaker in the United Sates.
