TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- A brand new scholarship has been established within the NSU Foundation as of Wednesday, Jan. 22. It will provide resources and grow the number of students pursuing a career in financial planning. Premier Advisors Group will support students completing their degrees in Financial Planning at Northeastern State University and will allow them the opportunity to utilize their education through a potential career with their company.

This scholarship has been created to provide annual scholarship monies for one or more full-time students at NSU. To qualify, applicants must have a minimum of a 2.75 GPA, be a graduating senior majoring in Financial Planning and must attend, A Career of a Lifetime; Premier Advisors Groups informational meeting.

The secondary criterion for applicants is that when they attend the informational meeting they must complete and pass a computerized assessment. All applicants with qualifying assessment scores will be asked to submit an essay as the final step of the application process. The essay topic will be, Why I would like to be a Financial Planner. The essay should be no more than two pages and should demonstrate the applicants communication skills and motivation.

The initial scholarship award is expected to be $1,000 for an academic year. One-half of the annual award will be made for the fall semester and the second half will be received in the spring if the scholar maintains the minimum GPA requirements. It is possible that this amount will be more if other donations are received.

Two things drew us to NSU, said Mike Hulse, Premier Advisor Group Managing Partner. One reason is the schools curriculum matches up with what we are looking for when we recruit. The second reason is we have an associate of the Northeastern community right here who is reflective of the quality that comes from the university.

The application process will be managed by the Office of Student Financial Services and the selection recommendation will be made by a committee appointed by the Dean of the College of Business. Applications will be accepted for this scholarship each year that it is sufficiently funded. Contributions will be accepted by the NSU Foundation to this scholarship fund.
