New student housing project receives board approval

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State University is preparing to move forward with a new student housing project after receiving approval from the Regional University System of Oklahoma Board on Friday, April 11.

RUSO approved $15,000,000 in funding through the Oklahoma State Regents of Higher Educations Real Property Master Lease Program to design and build a four story residence hall with approximately 344 beds on the Tahlequah campus. The new residence hall will be located on the northeast corner of Lewis and Garrison; construction will begin later this year.

This is a huge step forward for us, NSU president Steve Turner said after the vote. Our students have been asking for the type of housing experience that we will soon be able to deliver. I am also excited about the upgrades we will be able to provide on existing housing.

The new housing project will be in a semi-suite configuration designed to complement Haskell Halls current design features. The project will also include energy efficient HVAC and tankless hot water systems.

The approved funding includes renovations to Wyly and Leoser Halls that will include upgrades to the restrooms and HVAC systems.

NSU will schedule a ground breaking ceremony this summer.
