NSU Music Department hosts faculty, guest recital

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--On Monday, March 23, at 7 p.m. the Northeastern State University Department of Music will host a recital featuring Dr. Patricia Surman, flute, and Dr. Kostas Chardas, piano, at the NSU Center for Performing Arts.

The first set will feature classics of the flute repertoire, including works by composer Johann Sebastian Bach and Moravian composer George Enesco. The second half of the concert showcases works by living American composers, including Joseph Schwantners Black Anemones, Daniel Dorffs Three Lakes Sonata, and the world premiere of Chapman Welchs Antiques of a Mechanical Nature.

Patricia Surman is a Yamaha Performing Artist and Fulbright Scholar and has appeared on concert stages around the world, both as a recitalist and concerto soloist. Greek pianist Kostas Chardas teaches at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece and recently released his debut CD Y. A. Papaipannou: In the Depth of the Looking Glass on the Naxos Label.
