NSU hosts Oklahoma Research Day – March 13

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Northeastern State University will host the 16thannual Oklahoma Research Day on Friday, March 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the NSU Event Center.

This is NSUs third year to host the event, previously hosting in 2008 and 2009. For many, this will be the first chance visitors will have to experience NSU new Event Center and Community Building.

We hope that everyone will find our new Event Center and Community Building to be a great venue for this hallmark annual event, Dr. Tom Jackson, dean of the NSU Graduate College and coordinator of the event said. NSU is grateful for all of the participants choosing to visit us in Tahlequah, and hope that we can provide the kind of setting and hospitality for which Oklahoma Research Day is renowned.

More than 1,400 authors and co-authors, will be presenting approximately 650 posters, from across the state on a wide array of topics ranging from oil cartel analysis to footstrike and flexibility studies on collegiate cross-country runners.

Following registration, a breakfast will be served for all participants followed by the first session of poster presentations. The first round of poster presentations will take place from9 to 10:15 a.m.followed by a second round from10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

After presentations there will be a luncheon featuring keynote speaker, Captain David R. Gahn, MD, MPH, with the U.S. Public Health Service/Indian Health Service. Gahn is currently the Surveillance Coordinator for the Cherokee Nation Public Health and a staff physician and OB/GYN for the Cherokee Nation Hastings Hospital. The NSU Jazz Ensemble, directed by Tommy Poole, will provide entertainment during the luncheon.

Northeastern State University is very excited to welcome Oklahoma Research Day back to our Tahlequah campus. We last hosted the event in 2009, and since then it has continued to evolve as a premiere showcase for the intellectual capacity and talent of students and faculty from across the state. This year we will enjoy the contributions of approximately 1,400 state, national, and international researchers. On the heels of last weekends Robotics State Championship, NSU's $16 million event center continues to demonstrate it is the perfect venue for prestigious programs and events, President Steve Turner said.

Oklahoma Research Day is a consortium event coordinated by Oklahomas Regional Universities to provide students and faculty the opportunity to present research to their colleagues.

Founded in 1999, Oklahoma Research Day was hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma for nine years, followed by two years at NSU, two years at Cameron University and then two more years at UCO.The event has grown in number and in stature each year, now boasting contributions from all of Oklahomas institutions of higher education including many collaborative contributions from national and international academic and research institutions.

My hopes are that participants and visitors will use this day as an opportunity to both share and incorporate new knowledge and information, leading to the most important pursuit, that of lifelong learning. Oklahoma Research Day 2015 is designed to be a true showcase of scholarly productivity ensuring a brighter future for Oklahoma, Jackson said.

Oklahoma ResearchDay is funded by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Oklahoma Experimental Program for Stimulating Competitive Research (EPSCoR) National Science Foundation, Idea Network for Biomedical Research Experience (INBRE) National Institute of Health and the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology (OCAST) and the Oklahoma regional universities.
