Published: 2015-01-26

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Some call it intuition; some call it a sixth sense. Whatever the case may be, Richard Preston has it and Northeastern State University wants in on his insight. With the recent Ebola scare and Prestons eerie predictions more than 20 years ago, Richard Preston has been selected to deliver this years Larry Adair lectureship onWednesday, February 25 at 11 a.m.at the Webb Auditorium in Tahlequah, Okla.

Preston is the author of the international best-seller The Hot Zone, a non-fiction look into the origins of Ebola and other threatening rain forest viruses. He is also the author of The Cobra Event, The Demon in the Freezer, The Wild Trees and most recently, he co-authored Micro, Michael Crichtons latest technological thriller. He is also a regular contributor to The New Yorker, and has been honored with the Champion of Prevention Award from the Center of Disease Control.

"Given Preston's knack for predicting the future of science and technology decades in advance, as he did with the Ebola virus in his 1995 best-seller The Hot Zone, we are looking forward to his insight during the 2015 Larry Adair Lecture," Peggy Glenn, executive director of the NSU Foundation, which hosts the lecture each year, said. "This year we involved past recipients of the Larry Adair Scholarship to select the speaker, and theyalong with Speaker Adairunanimously chose Richard Preston among the options presented."

When lecturing, Preston discusses the capabilities of biological terrorism, but also enlightens audience members to the inside story of how scientists are finding ways of protecting civilian populations. He brings light to subjects many individuals fear but must be made aware of, explaining the importance of being knowledgeable on tough subjects.

Friends and family of former Oklahoma Speaker of the House, the Honorable Larry Adair, and the NSU Foundation established the Larry Adair Lectureship Series in 2004 to create an annual forum to engage students in politics, government and public policy.

A book signing will follow the lecture in the Webb Auditorium lobby. This event is free and open to the public.
