The Northeastern State University Broken Arrow community raised $4,186.50 for Tulsa Area United Way during a fundraising campaign during Oct. 24-28.
The weeklong campaign featured a silent auction for about 15 gift baskets with themes ranging from breakfast to family fun night. Faculty, staff and students created the themed baskets and donated them for the auction.
The campaign also included a chili cook off and bake sale, loose change contributions and a silent auction for reserved parking spaces on campus.
While the campaign was a week of fun activities, Roy Wood, dean of the Broken Arrow campus, said it was fulfilling to give back to the community through TAUW.
Wood said he was inspired by the generosity and participation on the Broken Arrow campus.
Many of our staff, faculty and student leaders were involved with the planning and execution of this, he said. It was great to see the generosity of the people on the campus who are committed to giving back to the community where they live and work.
The amount raised for TAUW exceeded the NSUBA 2016 goal and topped the combined totals raised during the 2013-2015 campaigns.
Employees at hundreds of organizations across the Tulsa area, including those at the NSUBA campus, have shown the generosity of this community by giving to ensure that our 58 partner agencies receive the vital funds they need in the coming year, said Mark Graham, Tulsa Area United Way president and CEO.
