Reeds are named Northeastern State University Family of the Year

Published: 2016-11-01

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma)--Northeastern State University takes great pride in recognizing students for their academic and extra-curricular achievements. NSU also takes great pride in recognizing families and their support of the student, which is integral to a students success. Each year, NSU honors one family as the Family of the Year and this year the Reed family was the recipient of this award.

The Reed family hails from Cabot, Arkansas, and consists of Trevor Reed, the captain of the mens soccer team, his parents, Patrick and Melody and his sister, Emma.

We are grateful and humbled to have received the Family of the Year award, Melody said.

Patrick added that the family was surprised to receive the news that they were being honored.

We are fortunate to be part of the great soccer program at NSU, he said.

They were nominated based on their incredible support of the NSU mens soccer team and the university itself.

The Reed family attends most of the NSU soccer games, including away games, traveling as far as St. Louis, Missouri and Golden City, Colorado. At the games, the Reeds take photographs of the team, their friends and family, and they share those photographs with other NSU families.

They have also provided meals for the team when players are on the road and happen to travel past the Reed home.

The Reed family has been a strong financial supporter of the soccer program as well, participating in all fundraisers held, as well as donating to provide a better quality of life situation for the team members. The family designed and purchased bracelets as part of a fundraiser. They are worn by the NSU mens soccer players and are also sold at the home matches to raise money for the team.
