NSU welcomes new Vice President for Student Affairs

(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- Dr. Jerrid P. Freeman was officially named Northeastern State Universitys vice president for Student Affairs.

Freeman has served in a variety of roles at NSU since 2012, most recently as the interim vice president and assistant vice president for the same position.

His experience as a higher education professional ranges from regional director and research coordinator for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators IV-West, serving on the editorial board for the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, to working in seven other universities across the country as a community director, strategic planning consultant, facilities manager, resident hall director and an adjunct assistant professor.

This range allowed for immense learning opportunities and a different perspective on how to handle the various situations, which may surface in his field.

Freeman said he is excited to continue his career at NSU, and is committed to the success of the university and its students.

Student Affairs makes a major difference for so many of our students, and I feel a strong connection to the mission and values of NSU. I am ready for the opportunity to serve in my capacity as vice president.

Freeman holds a Doctor of Education in higher education, a Master of Arts in college student personnel, and a Bachelor of Science in secondary mathematics and physics education.

NSU president Steve Turner commended Freemans provenwork ethic, leadership in developing a comprehensive recruitment and retention plan, and ability to work across divisions.

I feel confident that he will provide the continuity and vision necessary to advance Student Affairs and to strengthen enrollment, Turner said.
