(Tahlequah, Oklahoma)--A new academic minor is now available at Northeastern State University. The Department of Geography and Political Science, in conjunction with the Sociology Program, is offering a minor in Global Studies.
The Global Studies minor provides students with an introduction to the fundamental forces at work in globalization.
Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, Global Studies minors develop the knowledge necessary to understand and appreciate cultural difference, global processes and the geographical relationships between places, Dr. Daniel Savage, chair of the Department of Geography, Political Science and Sociology, said.
Savage explained that the minor also provides students with an interdisciplinary framework for analyzing contemporary world and cultural problems.
Students choosing to declare a minor in Global Studies can choose 18 hours of coursework in the following areas: Global Economic Geography, Cultural Geography, Urban Geography, World Political Geography, Regional Geography Topics, Introduction to International Relations, Introduction to Comparative Politics, Regional Politics, Topics in Global Issues, Southern Politics, Cultural Anthropology, Rural Sociology, Urban Sociology and Magical Worldview.
This is an important area of study for any major as globalization and the opportunities it creates will influence all areas of our lives in many positive ways, if we understand the forces that facilitate this change, Dr. Phil Bridgmon, professor and dean of the College of Liberal Arts, said.
