NSU to make campus greener for 9/11 Day of Service

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma)--On the national 9/11 Day of Service, Northeastern State University volunteers will continue their tradition of planting trees on Sept. 9.Twelve new trees will be added on the Tahlequah campus. The new additions will help the university work toward another year of certification as a Tree Campus USA.

Tree Campus USA is an Arbor Day Foundation program that helps colleges and universities around the country establish and sustain healthy community forests.

The campus has a variety of trees on campus, the list includes silk trees, Osage oranges, sweet-gum, oak, dogwood, maple, flowering pear and many more.

Patti Morton, office manager of NSU Facilities Management, said that the American Society of Safety Engineers/Safety and Environmental Management Association have signed up to help the university plant trees, as they did last year during the 9/11 Day of Service.
