(Tahlequah, Oklahoma)--Northeastern State Universitys Center for Tribal Studies is hosting a book signing and discussion by Native American author, Dina Gilio-Whitaker, and co-author, Roxanne Dubar-Ortiz, on Nov. 7.
Gilio-Whitaker, a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes, and her co-author, Dunbar-Ortiz, will be signing copies of their book, All the Real Indians Died Off and 20 Other Myths About Native Americans at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore in the University Center at 12:30 p.m. The book discussion with the authors will be held on the second floor of John Vaughan Library at 4 p.m.
All the Real Indians Died Off and 20 Other Myths About Native Americans critically deconstructs persistent myths about American Indians that have taken hold in the United States. The book shows how most of the myths are rooted in the fears and prejudice of European settlers and in the larger political agendas of the settler state aimed to acquire Indigenous land.
Both events are free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore.
