(Broken Arrow, Oklahoma)--Northeastern State Universitys College of Education, Clinical Education and the Department of Teacher Education are preparing for the bi-annual Pre-Professional Teacher Induction Ceremony. The ceremonies will be hosted Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Webb Auditorium on the Tahlequah campus and Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. in the Administrative Services Auditorium on the Broken Arrow campus.
Dr. Deborah Landry, dean of the College of Education, said that the ceremony celebrates students and their families and the induction means the student has met all admission requirements to the College of Education. Admission requirements include applying for admission to Teacher Education, completing a Professional Interview, completing a Professional Habits Inventory, receiving a passing score on the Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET), passing ePortfolio Checkpoint #1, completing Clinical Teaching, and holding an overall grade point average of 2.75 or above.
We are very proud of these students that are seeking a career in education and teaching, Landry said.
During the ceremony, the teacher candidates are recognized by being awarded a golden apple pin to signify their belonging to a group of professional educators and a name badge to signify they are NSU teacher candidates, Dr. Tracy Thompson explained. The pin and badge are then worn during the teacher candidates last semester where they complete their full internship in an actual classroom.
The Teacher Induction Ceremony is meant to honor students for their hard work and dedication to their chosen field in education, Thompson said, Our students are welcomed into the Profession of Teaching as Teacher Candidates.
