NSU recognized by Arbor Day Foundation

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) -- Northeastern State University is a great place to be a tree; the university has once again been honored as a Tree Campus USA member by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Tree Campus USA is an Arbor Day Foundation program created in 2008 to help colleges and universities around the country establish and sustain healthy community forests.

Assistant Director of Capital Projects and Planning Nathan Kuntz said NSU met five sustainability standards as part of the certification process: The campus community planted trees on Arbor Day and Sept. 11 the National Day of Service and Remembrance; participated in student learning and service projects; established guidelines for tree maintenance with a Tree Care Plan; and administered an annual expenditure report for the tree campus program and established a tree campus committee.

This recognition of NSU as a Tree Campus USA member is something for our university to be proud of, Kuntz said. It shows we value our trees and understand the importance of trees on campus. It also shows the level of dedication that students, faculty and staff have toward preserving our community forest for future generations to enjoy as much as we do.
