NSU welcomes Buzzard as dean of College of BT

Published: 2017-05-24

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) -- Dr. Janet Buzzard will officially join Northeastern State University as the dean of the College of Business & Technology on July 1.

Buzzards career in education began in 1984 as a graduate teaching assistant. From there she became a tenured associate professor at Eastern New Mexico University and then Missouri Southern State University. She also has experience as an information technology specialist with the Department of Defense.

Prior to coming to NSU, Buzzard served as the dean of the College of Business at Eastern New Mexico University.

Buzzard earned her bachelors in business education from Missouri Southern State College, her masters in technical teacher education from Pittsburg State University and her doctorate in information processing from Oklahoma State University.

NSU is thrilled that Dr. Janet Buzzard will be joining the College of Business & Technology as the dean and a professor of information systems, Dr. Mark Arant, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs, said. Her experience and accomplishments with accreditation, scholarship and faculty advocacy makes her a great fit for a college on the verge of a new era on all of NSU's campuses. She will be an outstanding colleague to her fellow deans and of great assistance to Academic Affairs. Her presence in the area will benefit the relationships to the business communities of Broken Arrow, Muskogee and Tahlequah.

Dr. Phillip Bridgmon, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, said he was honored to have worked with colleagues across campus to bring an accomplished leader to NSU.

Dr. Buzzard's steady leadership in her current role as dean at Eastern New Mexico University includes successes in extended relationships, growing enrollments in both the graduate and undergraduate programs, and focusing on student success, Bridgmon said. Her strengths in accreditation and within industry will also help advance the College of Business and Technology as it implements its strategic plan. Most importantly, Dr. Buzzard is an approachable colleague who promotes shared governance and faculty/staff development. We look forward to welcoming her to campus over the summer.
