Smith awarded Clean Line Energy Scholarship

(Broken Arrow) -- Northeastern State University-Broken Arrow senior Madison Smith is the recipient of the 2017 Clean Line Energy Scholarship.

Smith is an environmental, health and safety management major from Coweta, Oklahoma; she is set to graduate in December 2017.

Smith has completed the Future Farmers of America State Farmer Degree, been inducted into the Rho Theta Sigma Honor Society, and earned the Occupational Safety and Health Administration 30-hour general industry certification. Shes a member of Student Council, a Student Advisory Board Member, an Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority Alumnus and Student Section President of the American Society of Safety Engineers.

In her scholarship application essay, Smith explained her interest in a career in renewable energy.

"As our population grows throughout the world, the United States, and even right here in Oklahoma, we are constantly finding new ways to make things 'simpler' or more 'natural.' Renewable energy is something I am personally excited about, she said.

Applicants for the Clean Line Energy Scholarship were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and were asked to write a scholarship essay explaining their interest in a career in renewable energy and/or preservation of Native American tribal culture.
