NSU host “Know Before U Go” college prep workshop

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) -- The American Indian Graduate Center, Wells Fargo and Northeastern State University are teaming up to offer American Indian high school students, parents and educators a one-day college preparatory workshop, Know Before U Go. The event will be held March 4 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the University Center on the NSU-Tahlequah campus.

Separate breakout sessions will be offered for students and parents on a variety of topics including how to be a successful college applicant, how to transition from high school to college, how to afford college and scholarships available for American Indian and Alaska Native students. University staff and tribal higher education departments will be on hand to answer questions students and parents may have about application processes and available programs.

I have worked with the American Indian Graduate Center for many years and am excited to continue our partnership by bringing this program to our communities, Sara Barnett, director of the Center for Tribal Studies, said. It will be a day filled with information some students and parents will likely not be able find elsewhere.

There is no registration fee, but individuals need to register online at www.aigcs.org/kbug-tahlequah in advance. Space is limited to 200 participants. Participants will have the chance to win a laptop and/or one of two scholarships offered by NSU.
