Anton serving as NSU interim dean of College of Education

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) -- Dr. Vanessa Anton is serving as Northeastern State Universitys interim dean of the College of Education.

The announcement followed Dr. Debbie Landrys acceptance of the position as NSUs interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.

Anton attended NSU and received her bachelor degree in business education and her masters in college teaching and health and human performance. She completed her doctorate in kinesiology at the University of Arkansas.

Anton began her career at NSU in 1997 teaching in the Health & Kinesiology department. She accepted a position as the assistant dean of the College of Education in July of 2012 and then became the associate dean in July of 2013, where she has served for four years.

Anton has served on many local, state and national education committees and boards. Some of her most recent work has been on the task force that began the states Data Governance Council. She also served on the Teacher Performance Assessment task force at the state level and was the president of the Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education and Dance where she won the organizations highest lifetime achievement honor award.

Anton was a member of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation Clinical Design Team where she was part of a group that studied clinical practice and presented their findings in several venues nationally. Her current research revolves around best practice in clinical education and includes the work she is doing as a member of the American Association for Colleges of Teacher Educations Clinical Practice Commission.

Currently she serves on the board of the Oklahoma Association for Colleges of Teacher Education and is a national reviewer for the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation.

The COE has a long history of preparing quality educators, counselors, and health professionals, and we will certainly be moving forward with this important work by continuing to develop meaningful partnerships with our stakeholders. Anton said. Our planning revolves around rigor, responsibility, relevance, relationships and results, and our outstanding faculty and staff are very focused on facilitating learning through immersive experiences utilizing current research, best practice and a strong understanding of current and future needs.
