(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) -- The Northeastern State University competitive speech and debate team traveled to the University of Oklahoma for the Sweetheart Swing competition February 10-12.

NSUs three student teams competed in the tournament that hosted 191 competitors from 27 schools.

Gemini Creason, a junior from St. Louis, finished second in International Parliamentary Debate Association debate, received seventh place speaker, fifth in After Dinner Speaking, and fourth in Dramatic Interpretation. She also was next out for Impromptu.

It was a really tough tournament, so I am really pleased to see Creason advance in her events and to see our other students do well in preliminary rounds, said Dr. Kristopher Copeland, director of forensics.

Copeland coaches the team along with Maggie Falley, the graduate assistant coach, and Anthony Woodall, volunteer coach. Under their direction, the team has won 37 awards for the competitive year.
