Speech and Debate team competes in state competition

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) -- The Northeastern State University competitive speech and debate team traveled to Oklahoma City University for the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Forensics Association state championship March 3-5.

NSUs three student teams competed against 12 teams during the state competition.

The team ranked third in Oklahoma Individual Events and third in Oklahoma overall (debate and Individual Events).

Gemini Creason, a junior from St. Louis, Missouri, finished first in Communication Analysis Speech, third in Informative, sixth in After Dinner Speaking, and first in Prose.

Brooke McClary, a junior from Quinton, Oklahoma, finished fifth in Communication Analysis Speech.

Conner White, a sophomore from Muldrow, Oklahoma, finished sixth in Prose and sixth in Dramatic Interpretation of Literature.

McClary and White finished third in Dramatic Duo of Literature.

Forensics Director Kristopher Copeland coaches the team along with graduate assistant coach Maggie Falley and volunteer coach Anthony Woodall. Under their direction, the team has won a total of 53 awards for the 2016-2017 competitive year.
