NSU speech and debate team competes at OU

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) -- The Northeastern State University competitive speech and debate team participated in the 2017 Sooner Swing at the University of Oklahoma in Norman Nov. 3 through Nov. 5.
While the tournament did not start off as anticipated, NSU won seven awards the second day of the tournament, hosted by the University of Oklahoma. Gemini Creason, a senior from Tahlequah, won fifth in the events of Poetry, Informative Speaking, and Extemporaneous Speaking while placing second in After Dinner Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, and Communication Analysis. Earin Murrell, a freshman from Tulsa, placed third in Poetry.
The NSU team won eight awards the second day of the tournament, which was hosted by OU Forensics Alumni. Creason placed first in Informative Speaking, second in After Dinner Speaking and Communication Analysis, and third in Poetry and Persuasive Speaking.
Creason also walked away with the awards of Top Public Address Speaker, Top Individual Event Speaker and Top Individual Event & Debate Speaker.
The next competition will be at Cameron University in Lawton.
