(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) - Northeastern State Universitys fishing team brought home first and sixth place awards from the YETI FLW College Fishing event on Lake Texoma April 8.

The NSU fishing team competed against 91 collegiate teams in the tournament. Team members Blayke Haggard and Cody Metzger won first place by bringing in five fish that weighed 19 pounds four ounces and team members Caleb Gibson and Tyler Winn finished sixth by bringing in five fish that weighed 17 pounds 15 ounces.

The YETI FLW College Fishing event on Lake Texoma was hosted by the Denison Area Chamber of Commerce and was the second of three regular-season qualifying tournaments for Southern Conference anglers in 2018. Both teams qualified to move on to the 2019 national championship.

Another highlight for the fishing team: members Carson Smith and Taylor Hamburger recently qualified for the 2018 Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship July 19-21.
