NSU to host annual Fun and Field Day

Published: 2018-03-02

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) - Northeastern State University is set to host the fourth annual Fun and Field Day March 14 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Doc Wadley Stadium and track.

This area event provides an opportunity to students around the state who are unable to travel to the state level Special Olympics. Participants will have the chance to compete in a variety of track and field events as well as, bocce, softball throw, face painting and more games.

Shayla Stewart with the Grand View School Special Education Department has organized this event, and she said shes excited to see more students participate this year.

Last year we had around 150 students participating in the fun and field day games from schools around the area and we are expecting more this year, she said. This is a great way for the college athletes at NSU and the college of education to help the community. As a former softball player at NSU, I wish we had an opportunity like this. This day is going to be great. You don't want to miss it.

NSU athletic teams, spirit squads and the Education department will volunteer throughout the day, assisting with events and supporting the participants.

The community is welcome to come and support the Fun and Field Day. The event is free and open to the public. There will be concession stands set up by Sodexo and worked by eighth grade Grand View students. A percentage of the money raised at these stands will go towards Grand Views Special Olympic Department.

The deadline for students to sign up is March 7. For more information or to sign up, contact Shayla Stewart through email at sstewart@grandviewchargers.org or 918-456-5131 ext. 141.
