NSU Galaxy of Stars welcomes Grammy winner Mattea

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--The Galaxy of Stars is pleased to welcome twice named Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year and Grammy award-winning Kathy Mattea to the stage at the NSU Center for the Performing Arts onFriday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m.MatteasSong for the Seasonperformance is sponsored by BancFirst and promises to get the audience into the holiday spirit.

Mattea has close to 30 Top 40 country hits and celebrates the season with a thoughtful blend of old favorites and new songs from her celebrated holiday albums, Joy for Christmas Day and Good News. She is a singer, musician, songwriter, public speaker and activist. Her music and message have taken her to venues across American and overseas.

The singers unmistakable voice combines timeless melodies and uplifting narratives resulting in a performance of joy and reverence for the season celebration. The acclaimed singer/songwriter is known for bringing elements of folk, bluegrass, gospel and intimacy to her music, including chart-toppers such as Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses, Whereve You Been, and Walking Away a Winner.

Go Beyond the Stage with one of Tahlequahs own singer/songwriters, Mark Sweeney as he presents a lecture and workshop titled,It Starts with a Song, also on Dec. 5at 3:30 p.m. at the NSU Jazz Lab. The lecture and workshop is free and open to the public and willexplore song writing, performance, Sweeneys own experience touring.

Sweeney has performed all over the country and has released two CDs with George Sweeney as Barton & Sweeney. He has receive two of Tulsas Spot Awards for his music and has performed everywhere from the Kennedy Center to the Bluebird Caf.

As a part of Northeastern State Universitys Sequoyah Institute, the Galaxy of Stars Series fosters cultural enrichment beyond the classroom, and promotes the experience and understanding of the fine arts through the presentation of national and international performing artists to students and the community. Beyond entertainment, educational outreach events accompany each of the series and lectures. The Galaxy of Stars Series is a vital part of the educational experience offered at NSU.
