NSU freshman to intern at National Museum

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) - Emily Barrett, a Northeastern State University freshman, has been offered a prestigious internship at the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.

Barrett, a business management major from Springdale, Arkansas, will intern in the Executive Planning Office of the NMAI. During her internship shell be working to develop and improve various projects throughout the museum.

Im most looking forward to learning more about my culture, Cherokee descent, while I learn about what I am passionate aboutwhich is business, Barrett said.

Barrett said she hopes to own a business, and this internship will help her build leadership skills which will be crucial in pursuing that goal after she graduates.

She learned of the opportunity from a guest speaker from the Smithsonian in Dr. Farina Kings U.S. history class during the fall 2017 semester. King said she was happy to recommend Barrett for the internship.

NSU is proud of Emily's significant accomplishments and wish her all the best on this upcoming opportunity in Washington, King said.
