(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Chancellor Glen D. Johnson presented Senator Kim David with a Distinguished Service Award, Sept. 27 at Northeastern State University.
David was recognized for her investment in higher education and for her efforts to ensure higher education be a top priority in Oklahoma.
Higher Education really stepped up last session, David said. The measures they put in place to save money made a huge difference. With their help, we were able to identify sources of money to better support concurrent enrollment.
We had a revenue problem and were able to do something about that, she said. We have a much better opportunity now and I really look forward to the next two to four years.
"Senator Kim David has been a champion for higher education since her election to the Senate in 2010, and is very deserving of the Distinguished Service Award, said Johnson. As appropriations chair, Senator David played an instrumental role in advocating for an increase in concurrent enrollment funding. Our state system of higher education is grateful for her leadership, and we look forward to continuing to work with her on behalf of the system and our students.
David was recently selected as the Majority Floor Leader for the upcoming legislation session. She has served as chair of the Grand River Dam Authority Legislative Task Force for the past seven years and as vice chair of the Governors Impaired Driving Prevention Advisory Council for the past four years. She is a member of the GOPAC Advisory Board and was named to the Board of Oklahoma State Tribal Affairs Council this past session. She served as the Appropriations Committee chair during the last session.
The Distinguished Service Awards for Higher Education were established to recognize individuals who demonstrate distinguished leadership and support of higher education in Oklahoma during the legislative session.
