NSU partners with TCSO for degree completion program

Published: 2018-02-12

Northeastern State University and the Tulsa County Sheriffs Office entered into a partnership that will offer a flexible criminal justice degree completion program to officers and staff who have completed an associate of science degree from Tulsa Community College.

NSU President Steve Turner and Sheriff Vic Regalado signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize the agreement Feb. 12 at the Tulsa County Sheriffs Office.

TCSO understands the importance of continuing education on not only our youth, but also to the work force, said Regalado. This partnership with NSU is excellent opportunity for our employees. The flexibility of the online courses and fast track classes will make it possible for our employees who work a variety of shifts to be able to achieve their educational goals of obtaining a bachelors degree in criminal justice.

Our region is very fortunate to be served by so many officers who put in the time and effort to build their knowledge of law enforcement, said Turner. NSU is pleased to expand our long-standing partnership with TCSO, allowing for a seamless transition to a bachelors degree track after completion of an associate degree at TCC.

The criminal justice degree completion program, facilitated by the NSU College of Extended Learning, consists of fast-track classes that combine online and classroom learning. This flexible format makes it possible for working students to complete the requirements for a bachelors degree in as little as two years.

The bachelors degree in criminal justice provides a broad understanding of the criminal justice system, an overview of law and the American court system and various electives that range from forensics to criminal investigations.
