NSU’s Alumni Association names 2019 Outstanding Seniors

Published: 2019-06-05

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) - Northeastern State Universitys Alumni Association has announced the 2019 Outstanding Seniors and the Jack Kaufman Senior of Distinction.

The Outstanding Senior recognition honors graduating seniors, nominated by NSU faculty and staff, who have made significant contributions to NSU through academic achievement, campus activities, community service, honors and awards. The Alumni Association bestows this recognition for the Tahlequah and Broken Arrow campuses each spring.

Honored seniors are Madyson Bush, of Skiatook; Cheyhoma Dugger, of Hartshorne; Billy Jo Gordon, of Weleetka; Rachel Hiatt, of Cleveland; Chaydee Lawless, of Rufe; Blaze Milner, of Tulsa; Trenton Morgan, of Choctaw; Gabriel Mouse, of Tahlequah; Nichole Phy, of Sand Springs; and Daelyn Smith, of Mannford.

All honorees received a commemorative stole to be worn at graduation, a framed award certificate and a one-year membership to the Alumni Association.

Through interviews with the Outstanding Seniors, the Alumni Board of Directors awards committee selected Cheyhoma Dugger as the Jack Kaufman Senior of Distinction.

Dugger is a public accounting major. As an NSU student she has been president of the Future Alumni Network, Miss Choctaw and a member of the Delta Mu Delta business honor society.

"Being selected as a 2019 Outstanding Senior means a great deal to me, Dugger said. It shows that NSU presented me with many opportunities and that I took advantage of them. It shows that anyone can balance hard work and good times and that there is no reason to choose one or the other. Being selected as a 2019 Outstanding Senior helps me to show others that anyone can succeed no matter what the circumstances are."

As the Jack Kaufman Senior of Distinction, Dugger will receive a three-year membership in the Alumni Association, two complimentary tickets to NSUs Emerald Ball, a monetary award of $500 and the Kaufman Medal.
