NSU Libraries celebrate the Earth

Northeastern State Universitys Libraries Earth Day and Sustainability Committee are celebrating the Earth with activities throughout April.

The theme this year is Earth is Home! and the mission is to become better guardians of habitats and endangered species, more protective of our natural resources, and more vigilant of the role each person plays toward sustaining the Earth.

Both the John Vaughan Library and the Broken Arrow Library will host these activities:

  • Each campus library will have an Earth is Home! display of resources related to Earth Day, sustainability, endangered species and conservation of natural resources.
  • Each location will offer two pledge opportunities. Participants will be able to pledge to recycle and to conserve energy and water. Educational handouts on recycling and conservation will be available.
  • On April 23 at 12 p.m. both campuses will have a prize drawing. One winner will receive two Tulsa Zoo tickets and one winner will receive a pack of stainless steel straws. Stop by the Earth display at either library between April 15 and 22 to enter the drawing.

The John Vaughan Library on Tahlequahs campus will feature the following presentations and events:

  • On April 17 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Dr. Christine Hallman will present Becoming an Environmental Warrior: Inspiration, Education, & Action, in Lab 105.
  • On April 17 from 2 to 3 p.m. Brenda Bradford will present Exploring Beekeeping, in Lab 105.
  • On April 22 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Brenda Bradford and Blain McLain will present Gearldine Henderson Collection: Exploring the Seven Continents, in Lab 105.
  • On April 22 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. the Franke Lee Band will play at the Second Century Plaza. In the event of inclement weather, this event will take place in the Webb Auditorium. An opportunity to enter the prize drawing will be available at the concert.
  • On April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be Earth related video viewings on the first floor of the library.

The Broken Arrow Library and campus will host this unique activity:

  • On April 24 at 11 a.m. there will be a red maple tree planting on the East Lawn outside the library.

All activities are free and open to the public.
